
COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – As the 2014-15 season came to an end for the Tennessee Tech women’s basketball team, the Ohio Valley Conference recognized effort and ability of one Tech’s players as junior Samaria Howard earned a place on the All-OVC Second Team, as well as being named to the All-Newcomer Team.
The 5-foot-7 guard made a name for herself in her first season at Tech as she earned three adidas® Newcomer of the Week awards, and she recorded a team-best four double-doubles on the season.
Howard, a Florida State College at Jacksonville transfer, led the Golden Eagles in scoring, averaging 15.6 points on the season, good for seventh in the OVC, and increasing her productivity to 17.4 points in OVC play, good for fifth. Howard exceeded the 20+ point mark seven times, and scored in double-figures in 25 of TTU’s 29 games.
Howard also proved her dynamic ability by grabbing 5.8 rebounds per game, including surpassing 10+ rebounds in four games. She also finished the season shooting an impressive 81.3-percent from the free throw line.
