Ogoke earns spot on SSAC All-Tournament Team

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Southern Polytechnic State University women’s basketball player Sarah Ogoke recently earned spot on the Southern States Athletic Conference All-Tournament Team. The six-member all-tournament squad was announced following Saturday night’s SSAC Tournament championship game.


In Southern Polytechnic’s two games at the SSAC Tournament in Montgomery on Thursday and Friday, Ogoke — a two-time all-conference selection — averaged 19.0 points, 9.0 rebounds and 5.0 assists with two steals while shooting a perfect 8-of-8 at the free throw line. In Southern Poly’s 80-78 overtime win over Martin Methodist College in the quarterfinal round on Thursday, she finished with game highs of 31 points and six assists to go along with 10 boards.


On the season, Ogoke leads the Hornets in scoring (17.1 points per game), field goals made (138), three-point field goals made (41), three-point field goal percentage (40.6 percent), free throws made (111), free throw percentage (82.2 percent), defensive rebounds (155) and assists (82, 3.3 a contest). She also averages 7.8 rebounds and has 48 steals and 12 blocked shots.


SPSU is 23-7 overall and ranked 27th nationally after receiving 34 points in the latest NAIA Division I coaches’ poll. Southern Poly captured an automatic berth to the 2014 NAIA Division I Women’s Basketball National Championship event after winning the outright SSAC Eastern Division title with a 16-4 record. Play at the 32-team NAIA Division I national tournament begins on Wednesday, March 19 in Frankfort, Ky.
